6 Calming Podcasts to Help You Fall Asleep Faster

by Dale Dauterive

1. Sleep With Me

Everybody loves Goodnight Moon, but not all bedtime stories are just for children. Dr. Ackerman, the host of the show, makes that point incredibly clear. Dealing with lifelong insomnia, Ackerman knows firsthand how debilitating a lack of sleep can be. His episodes range from one to two hours long, so you’ve got plenty of time to slowly fall into a deep slumber. His deep, burly voice is an added bonus as well.

2. Game of Drones

Winter may have been coming but sleep is coming even faster! Yes, the name is what you thought--a Game of Thrones podcast. Even though the series has sadly come to an end, you can use this podcast to revisit your favorite episodes or catch up if you’re starting the program late.

Pioneered by the voice behind Sleep With Me, Dr, Ackerman, this podcast focuses specifically on the HBO cult-classic series Game of Thrones. Ackerman recaps past episodes in a detained, yet monotonous analysis that will have listeners falling asleep in no time.

Again, it’s just something about that husky voice talking about swords and dragons. Soothing.

3. The Daily Meditation Podcast

Hmmm ... no, not that kind of meditation!

Well, I guess it could be if that helps you fall asleep.

The purpose of this podcast is to help you sleep but also to help you find inner peace, energy, and clarity. Hosted by podcast creator Mary Meckley, she is a certified meditation teacher who knows a little something about peace and quiet. Plus, there’s something to look forward to each week as every episode features a new theme.

Once you start meditating you have every right to say nama-stay in bed.

4. Sleep Whispers

Simply put, this is a podcast of whispered ramblings and readings to help you fall asleep and stay asleep. Regular music can sometimes over-stimulate the mind and make it harder to fall asleep--the goal of this podcast is to ease your thoughts without overly engaging your mind. You’ll listen to a combination of stories, recipes, and ramblings, all spoke in a whispered tone to help soothe you before bed.

5. Welcome to Night Vale

Not entirely a podcast about sleep, Welcome to Night Vale is a bi-monthly show with episodes packed with conspiracies, small-town occurrences, and dark figures with unworldly powers. Think of a style similar to Twin Peaks or The Twilight Zone--if you still can’t sleep you’ll certainly be entertained.

Grab your blankets, your favorite pillow, and maybe even a big bowl of popcorn--be sure to get tucked in nice and tight, these tall tales are sure to help you drift into dreamland.

6. The Auracle

The Auracle utilizes a relatively new sleep technique called ASMR or autonomous sensory meridian response. It sounds like it will make your head hurt but it actually relaxes your mind.

The idea is that simple sounds like tapping, scratching, or rain can send a tingling sensation throughout your body to help you unwind, de-stress, and gently fall asleep. The podcast also includes lullabies, stories, poetry, and relaxing ambient tones and sleep-inducing sounds to help do the trick.
